The Mini Globe Race is all about the Mini 5.80 boats. These compact yet sturdy vessels are designed to take on the challenges of circumnavigating the globe. Despite their small size, they’re equipped with everything you need to survive at sea for months on end. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a passionate amateur, as long as your Mini 5.80 is seaworthy and meets the safety requirements, you’re ready to set sail.

Class Globe 5.80 – A 5.80 – meter small ocean – going sailboat suitable for long – distance round – the – world voyages. It can be DIY (built by oneself), crafted from wood or plywood. - 🌍 Race Format
The race is staged in segments (trans – oceanic → round – the – world). It includes the Atlantic Proving Race (a trans – Atlantic warm – up) and the Globe 5.80 Race (round – the – world race). - 🧭 Route Direction
The route follows a Magellan – style westward round – the – world course (against the wind / along the direction of longitude). Starting from Europe, sailors navigate around South America, round the Cape of Good Hope, completing a genuine circumnavigation. - 👤 Participation Method
The race is for solo sailors, and high – tech aids are not allowed. It’s ideal for those with long – distance sailing experience and big dreams. - 🛠️ Boat – building Philosophy
Participants are encouraged to build their own boats (or commission a shipyard to build according to the blueprints). This approach significantly reduces costs compared to traditional ocean – going sailboats. The construction cost ranges from approximately €20,000 to €30,000.
Host Region or Route
The race starts in a bustling port, and from there, sailors embark on a journey around the world. They’ll cross the Atlantic, navigate the treacherous waters of the Southern Ocean, and explore the far – flung corners of the Pacific and Indian Oceans before finally returning to their starting point. Along the way, they’ll experience a diverse range of cultures, landscapes, and weather conditions.
